Amy Kuney’s vocal prowess is way beyond her chronological age of 20. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, “The Bible Belt,” she was uprooted from the States and transplanted in Honduras with her family. “While moving to another country was an emotional jerk for me, I found the whole thought process was changing as had the environment around me,” says Kuney. Influenced by fellow Oklahomans, Hansons’, “Mmmbop,” Kuney was destined to be a pop star. At 19, she felt born again as she re-entered the states as a writer/artist in Los Angeles, signing an artist development and co-publishing deal with Spin Move Records and Centinela Music.
As a singer/songwriter Kuney touches on universal themes of lost loves and other life experiences. “So Help Me God,” explores young romance with the whisper of sweet nothings. The song was featured on the daytime soap opera, “Passions” an impressive introduction for a twenty year old independent artist debuting her first recording.
Her vocals on this debut “EP” on Spin Move records are reminiscent of Norah Jones and Judy Collins, which are jazzy and breezy. The CD has an excellent production as Peter A. Barker and Mandi Martin produced the disc. “Sure Loser,” draws you in to this track with the analogy of a baseball game to a relationship. “Sold Out,” delves into the idea of leading a double life and that the partner in the relationship will only be interested when the girl is going to be famous and basically sold out. “Breaking Bad Habits,” explores the idea of making bad decisions in a relationship that is faltering.
This disc is like eating a delicious dessert you savor every bite. Kuney is destined for greatness. With such a grand repertoire she has a bright future. Check her out at: www.amykuney.com
