CD Review
By Susie Salva
Celebrating their 20th anniversary Poison – the kings of lipstick and hair spray, glitz and glam, and pop metal have just released, “The Best of Poison 20 Years of Rock,” on Capitol/EMI Records. The CD debuted at 17 on Billboard’s 200 chart. Who knew they had such staying power. Critics dismissed them as a flash-in-the-pan, a one-hit-wonder, and even a joke. Well, now look who is having the last laugh... Poison.
The new CD has 17 songs that are their fans favorite hits including, “Talk Dirty To Me,” “Something to Believe In,” “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” and “Unskinny Bop”. The 18th track is a new song an energetic and explosive cover and video of “We’re An American Band,’ by Grand Funk Railroad and was produced by Don Was (Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan).
On May 23rd, to kick off their tour, Capitol/EMI will release an expanded CD/DVD package “The Best of Poison 20 Years of Rock – Deluxe Tour Edition” The package includes the 18 track CD and companion DVD featuring the bands most rocking music videos and behind the scenes look at the making of their new recording of “We’re An American Band.” All Deluxe Tour Edition packages include a code for Poison fans to logon on to www.20yearsofrock.com to buy one ticket and receive one ticket free for the “20 Years of Rock Tour” as a thank you to the fans.
Poison’s music is infectious with catchy choruses and searing guitar licks. Their songs console you when you are down and lift your spirits up. Their music is a snap shot of our lives as Poison encompasses everything about rock ‘n roll: sex, drugs, fun, and violence.
Be sure to catch them on their world tour this summer sponsored by Live Nation and presented by VH1 Classics with Cinderella as the opening act as they too are celebrating 20 years of rock ‘n roll. Bret, Rikki, C.C. and Bobby prove that they are still having Nothin’ But A Good Time.
