Karmacode :: Lacuna Coil
Century Media Records 2006
CD Review

By The Atomic Chaser

Lacuna CoilLacuna Coil's newest release, 'Karmacode', is a masterpiece of a killer album. The band's previous outing, 'COMALIES', was amazing, but what they've come up with 'Karmacode', will blow you away! 'Karmacode' takes over where 'Comalies' left off and takes off in a major way. Christina Scabbia's mesmerizing vocals blended with Andrea Ferro's strong voice, heavy bass and guitar riffs give this album a fierce sound that will have you rocking in your car or room (or wherever you listen). Cristina Scabbia's impressive, hypnotic vocal styling on tracks like, "What I See," "Closer," and "The Game" are simply superb. Rip-roaring guitar, brooding beats, and emotionally-driven lyrical delivery from Scabbia combine to create the distinct Lacuna Coil sound that I would describe as "beautiful aggression". There have been many attempts to commercialize rock but all fall short of something special. With the exception of bands that have braved the past 20 years, like Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, most of the newer bands just don’t validate metal as it's own genre anymore! I'm sorry but bands like Evanescence and Linkin Park don't even come close to what metal is really about! Enter Lacuna Coil! If you like Nightwish, Epica or Within Temptation, then you'll LOVE Lacuna Coil! From the opening track "Fragile" to the closing cover of "Enjoy the Silence". 'Karmacode' is a statement that Lacuna Coil is here to stay for a very long time to come.
