CD Review
By The Atomic Chaser
Fans of old-school, Southern-tinged balls to the wall rock à la Corrosion of Conformity (with a dash of Trouble) will dig the underground southern fried groove-metal of Artimus Pyledriver. The band is fueled and powered by, Dave Slocum - Vocals, Jim Hall - Guitar, Travis Owen - Drums, Mike Faulkner - Bass and Damon Goldsmith - Guitar. With Pantera heaviness and a beer-drinking and hell-raising vibe, Artimus Pyledriver occupy the small if revered niche also populated by the likes of Kyuss, the Melvins, Raging Slab, early Fu Manchu, and Down. Their self-titled comes through with 10 songs of swampy, intense rumble-rock I would describe as "moonshine metal." For their first CD, Artimus Pyledriver have found a way to really crunch and burn with taste. It’s not the same pressed and molded rock that normally finds the radio waves. Personally, I find it’s one of the heaviest rock albums to come out in quite some time. As they serve up hot and nasty tracks like, "Swamp Devil", "Ride On", the ball bustin', "Shaggin Ass" and the one I love cranking the volume up to the max is, "Get Some". I just hope if they hit it big they won't become "artists" like most rock bands become. Careful playing this CD, IT'S A BAT OUTTA HELL WITH ONE HELLUVAN ATTITUDE!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
