'Isis' and 'Zombi' at The Knitting Factory

By Scott M.

Tonight's show was all about the music. No fashion, no style, just the music. First up were Zombi, no relation to the Devil's Reject. Zombi are a two piece that consists of a drummer and a synth/moog/bassist. No vocals. It may not sound like much. But trust me, there's something unique going on here. Imagine a soundtrack to a John Carpenter movie, and that's what you get. Eerie sounds and some incredible musicianship are what Zombi have to offer. You have to really have an open mind to appreciate this stuff, and they did not disappoint. The capacity crowd really enjoyed the set. Expect some big things for this duo. http://www.zombi.us/xii/home.html Next up were headliners Isis. They're kind of a slower, stoner version of Mastodon. Again, low on vocals and high on the instrumental. Concentrating mostly on their critically acclaimed "Panopticon" CD, Isis proved that they're on their way up the current ladder of Progressive Rock. Songs such as "So Did We" take you on a joyride of trippy sounds that will delight fans of this genre. Isis have a new CD coming out soon. I suggest you check it out. www.ipecac.com
