CD Review
By The Atomic Chaser
Gotthard is truly one of the rock world's best kept secrets. Their brand of 'late 70's era' rock contains superb songwriting that is played to perfection. How do they come across live? In my mind, for a live album to be considered even decent, it has to accomplish several tasks. It has to capture the true power and passion of what the band's fan can expect when they go to see their show. Gotthard's latest release, 'MADE IN SWITZERLAND, goes above and beyond that and is destined to be a classic! Ala, 'Live and Dangerous' by Thin Lizzy or 'Strangers In The Night' by UFO. Gotthard used for the first time the largest indoor venue that Switzerland has to offer; the Zürich Hallenstadion. Gotthard hasn't made it big here in the States and it's a shame because I know that there are a lot of people here who would love this melodic hard rock band and Gotthard serves it up oh so well! Front man Steve Lee sounds great, one of the best rock singers in the world ever, and the twin guitars are mixed in stereo so you can distinguish Leo Leoni playing from fellow axemen, Freddy Scherer. The rhythm section of bassist Marc Lynn and drummer extraordinaire Hena Habegger are rock solid and sound better than ever. What makes this a truly amazing live album, however, is the crowd. They're loud and clearly getting off from the band's energy. As the band ripped and rocked into fan favorites like, "All We Are", "Dream On", "Top Of The World", and a killer acoustic version of, "In The Name". The packaging for live rock albums nowadays are usually boring, but it's cool that 'MADE IN SWITZERLAND' is an exception. Along with the audio CD, it also comes with a bonus DVD that features extra songs no included on the audio disc. Gotthard's 'MADE IS SWITZERLAND' is one of the best live recordings released this year and one that is destined to be a classic! If you like Hard Rock (like Led Zeppelin, UFO, THIN LIZZY, and AC/DC) this comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
