Most of us like surprises and especially those we like, and I’m no different. So image my surprise and joy when I opened the CD packet from Fall to Grace and now can’t stopped listening to it. This is my type of rock/metal band sound. The sound is a combination of tough, crunchy guitars, pounding drums, a driving bass, and growling vocals. A hold the salad, bring me some meat on the bone style of music. This is music that’s meant to be played loud and live! It’s going to be the kind of music that’s in your face, and if you don’t pee before the show starts you might have an accident. Within the songs, I hear influences of GODSMACK, ALICE IN CHAINS, and JAMES HETFIELD. It’s a sound that hasn’t been over produced, over polished, or overly scrutinized to perfection. Instead their sound has a primeval organic quality of a band that simply show’s up, plugs in, and cranks it out! If you’re looking for a band with those screaming, incoherent vocals that for some odd reason seem to be all the rage, then this is not your type of music. The singer Johnny delivers vocals you can understand. If you take the time to write a song with lyrics you feel strong about, then why scream? That’s not music; that’s distortion, and that’s not Fall to Grace’s style. These lyrics stay in your head, and these are songs you will play repeatedly. Hell, I haven’t stopped listening to it in my MP3 player since I loaded it in weeks ago. Another aspect I find appealing is that these songs have in my opinion free and satellite radio marketability and could be played on any rock/metal station around the globe. It shouldn’t be long before Fall to Grace’s CD ends up in someone’s hands that realizes their potential.
