Whitestarr :: "Luv Machine"
CD Review

By Dedicated Rocker Productions

WhitestarrFirst of all I’d like to Thank Contango Records for having the balls to sign WHITESTARR, after Atlantic had them in their grasp, but didn’t know what to do with them. So here we have a label out of New York City, signing a group of wild partying musicians straight outta the ‘bu. That’s Malibu, California for those of you who didn’t know. WHITESTARR is singer extraordinaire Cisco Adler, who not only wrote and sang the songs, he also produced ‘Luv Machine’. Not only is Cisco born with a pure rock-n-roll voice, his father is musical genius Lou Adler (Monterey Pop Festival,Up In Smoke and Rocky Horror), you know, the good looking guy with a goatee and hat sitting next to Jack Nicholson at Lakers home games? Cisco’s name has been all over the press as he’s been linked to some of Hollywood’s beauties. His cohorts are madman drummer Alex “Orbie” Orbison, son of the late great Roy Orbison, smooth bassist Damon Webb and newest member, Rainbow Jeramy on colorful guitar. Rainbow ended up replacing Duane Betts, son of the Rambling Man, Dickie Betts of Allman Brothers fame. In the past, WHITESTARR had 2 lead singers and some of the songs were funky. Now with their latest CD, the sound has taking a whole new turn, for the better. This CD is more mature sounding, with a Black Crowes meet “Angie”, “Wild Horses” Rolling Stones, singed with a touch of Eagles, for that California flare. ‘Luv Machine’ starts out with the sound of the flick of a lighter. The song is “Gimme A Light” and has () my fav line, “If you want sex, I can put on T.Rex and we can Bang A Gong all night”. This song and the track “Sunshine Girl” have that typical Whitestarr sing along chorus. I’ma sucker for the hand claps and cowbell on songs like, “She’s So Fly” and the title track “Luv Machine”. Of course these guys get any party started with anthems like, “Sex On The Dance Floor” and “Welcome To Malibu”, an ode to their home town or even your hometown. It says, “Going home in a body bag, going to rehab, welcome to Malibu. Acouple of suprises are the slow bluesy number “The King” and the cover of the Bill Withers, crossover soul classic “Use Me”. This soon to be classic in its own right, closes with an acoustic tale, straight out of the early seventies Stones repertoire, Whitestarr call theirs “Marie”. Now there is nothing that can compare to a Whitestarr show. So please, go out and buy ‘Luv Machine’ and catch them partying at a club near you. Whitestarr is exactly what Rock–n-Roll needs. It’s SoCal Rock, Malibu style. This is one star that will never burn out or fade away. Shine on brothers. This one comes recommended by the Sunset Soul Freaks and Dedicated Rockers.
