Queensryche :: "Operation Mindcrime II"
Rhino Records
CD Review

By The Atomic Chaser

Queensryche returns with their long awaited sequel to their classic, 'Operation Mindcrime' and this time around, there is going to be HELL TO PAY. Focusing on three things, Love, Revenge and Redemption! 20 years after the original, 'Operation Mindcrime II', finds Nikki released from prison and with one thing on his mind. Getting his hands on Doctor X. What will blow you away is that as great as the original was and will always be, Queensryche have truly outdone themselves here big time. Musically the band sounds tighter than ever. Geoff Tate's vocals are superb! Concept recordings are hard pills to swallow, but just like Pink Floyd before them, Queensryche have a winning formula. The music and lyrics work perfectly and has the listener's undivided attention from the moment the play button is pressed. The first single, "I'm American", an adrenaline pumping rocker that sets you up for the intense mind fuck that awaits your psyche.
The story unfolds told perfectly with word and song, "One Foot In Hell", "Hostage" and "The Hands", which reminded me of "I Don't Believe In Love" from 'MC I', but toned down just a bit. 'MC II' comes to a close with the climatic energizer, "The Chase", with Geoff Tate trading off vocals with Ronnie James Dio as the infamous, Doctor X. Does Nikki handle his business and get his revenge? You're going to have to find out for yourself. What can drive one to extreme revenge? Try being putting away in cell for 20 years for a crime that you didn't commit. The one you love is killed and you know who is responsible. Oh hell yeah! There is going to be hell to pay. Everyone will have there own theories about 'MC II', just like they did with 'MC I'. I enjoyed, 'MC II' immensely! Was the wait worth it? Oh you bet it was! An outstanding release, by one of rock's best bands. I for one can't wait until OPERATION MINDCRIME hits the big screen! Hats off to, Geoff, Michael, Eddie, Mike and Scott for an outstanding job!
