Paperback Hero is a developing hard rock band with potential and a growing fan base thanks to talent, smart marketing techniques, hard work, and enthusiasm. They already have the title of “2005 KROQ-Budweiser-Hard Rock Café Battle of the Bands,” along with a movie theater deal in the works for one of their songs. Two years ago on 3-28-04, Paperback Hero played their first show at Hard Rock Café in Universal City Walk as part of a Can of Jam Productions show. The fun filled Debut Enhanced CD Release Party, with a full house in attendance, included friends in other bands, industry people, actors, friends, fans, and family which included out of town relatives flying in. Can of Jam Productions showed up as friendly industry support, despite the fact that they have moved on to bigger venues and no longer book shows at Universal Hard Rock. Can of Jam have a reputation in the business as being artist friendly.
Despite the rain, and playing an hour later than scheduled, the crowd stuck around and kept up their enthusiasm buying t-shirts and CD’s before the concert ever started. Bryan Hopkins, lead vocals, was running around video taping the crowd before going on stage
and socializing as was Pete Burke, drums; Dan Fine, bass; and Chris Lantham, guitar. When the show finally started Paperback Hero was ready to go with a guest introduction by Ralph Saenz (Metal Skool) who was also at their very first show. Ralph Saenz was the special guest performer which was a show highlight along with songs such as “For You” and “Call Out.” The show finale was another highlight where fans were invited to come up to the stage and dance with the band. The venue was minus the former drumming cage, which was a huge plus, that made it possible to fully appreciate the sound of Pete Burke. The band looked sharp wearing black and had a hard rock edgy sound similar to that of Cage 9. Paperback Hero put on a fun rock show that established a strong connection to the audience with high energy and contagious enthusiasm. The band stuck around to the delight of the crowd, socializing and giving autographs at the merchandizing table.
