Since the late 1990’s, The Green And Yellow TV have been all over the LA press. With their latest release, ‘Sinister Barrier’, the band have made a winner, with catchy pop diddies that are packed with so much going on in the background that you almost forget there’s lyrics to this musical controlled chaos. With the crisp production from Sheldon Gomberg, these songs may have beats from the sixties and sounds of the seventies, but they come alive in 2006. The opening cut, “The Wolves Are Out Tonight”, is a very bright song that is bleached by the sunshine of some Beach Boy vocals. Ther’s tambourine, a slow minute build up, heavy bass and drums, surrounded by a bed of tightly woven strings. “Monday, Tuesday”, is an upbeat sing along, with solid drums and great vocals. Then there’s the jangly guitar of “Temporary Fix” with it’s “we love you tonight” chorus, reminds me of Greenberry Woods. ‘Everyone Is Alright” could have been a TV show’s theme song back in the late sixties or early seventies. Check out “It’s All Been Done” with its hypnotizing vocals, while “Brother” leans more toward the soft vocals of Pink Floyd. All in all, this is a very well crafted independent CD, with a nice batch of songs. So if classic rock and power pop is your game, then The Green And Yellow TV is the name. These are skilled musicians, who make putting a complex pop record together, seem very easy.
