Chris Orr moved to Hollywood a year ago and has already established a successful boutique music management business and completed his final step of interviewing and negotiations to work for William Morris, one of the leading agencies in town. Recently Ore showcased three of his acts at Masquers’ Cabaret in West Hollywood. First up was V. K. Lynne who moved from Philadelphia to Los Angeles in 2001 to pursue her dream starting in the band Monogroove before going solo. Lynne’s sense of humor and her fashion statement of jeans and a black tank top that states “Promote Truth” made her the girl next door; with one exception, V. K. Lynne played a mean acoustic guitar as she belted out spiritual and passionate Southern Rock ballads that relate to whatever is happening in her life. Two new songs were introduced as Lynne warmed up to the audience, and currently she has her Black Halo debut album available and is working on material for her sophomore release.
Sima Fisher, Miss Toronto Canada 2006, broke a lot of hearts with her fearless sexy burlesque performance. Dressed in black and white, Fisher performed with trance music tracks while dancing and strolling through the enchanted audience, flirting and tossing her scarves and top hat. The audience went crazy over Fisher who has received a warm Hollywood welcome after being in the area only a month. Sima Fisher combines her love of music, painting, dance, poetry, and acting making for a passionate unforgettable performance with poetic passionate lyrics such as, “As you look into my eyes we would fantasy.” Fisher’s “Love and Solutions” lyrics skillfully combines all her attributes making this her emotional sanctuary waiting to be shared which is what her album Set Me Free under the Neon Music label does.
The final performer of the night was the expressive Austrian musician Hannes who’s gradually adjusted to life in Los Angeles as he has learned his way around. He already played with a band at The House of Blues and The Viper Room. Comic relief was back with an acoustic guitar, once he learned he could play after all despite the club being behind schedule for the night. Hannes thought he wouldn’t get to play, but he was requested and the audience wasn’t disappointed. With his grunge look of sandals, torn gray pants, yellow t-shirt, and light brown sport jacket, Hannes was a storyteller. He made jokes about trying to find his way around town because he was use to being stuck taking the bus, commented that he likes to make the mistake of singing while drinking beer, and at one point he got out the sheet of handwritten lyrics as he performed his brand new song before commenting that seeing Tom Waits performance was his inspiration and highlight of the week.
