CD review
By The Atomic Chaser and The Rocker
The rock and roll gods of our galaxy have sent down to earth, 3 bright shining stars that are burning so hot, that they have melted my stereo and speakers. But this is a good thing, wait, this is a great thing. The Golden Gods are about to bring heavy arena rock to a whole new level. The top of the pyramid, the cream of the crop and number one with a sweating bullet.
This is pure dynamite rock-n-roll. This San Francisco based trio is made up of Englishman Simon Scott on soulful vocals and screaming guitar. The driving rhythm section is made up of Dan Trilk on the low end and Shelton Richards pounding the skins. There's even some touches of a Hammond B3, that gives them the classic rock of Deep Purple or the new sound of The Datsuns. Their thunderous debut CD, had me shaking and rocking right from the start. First you hear them plug in and then "Even I Don't Know" hits you with the speed of Motorhead, crossed with Fastway. Up next, "Dynamite Lady" has it all! Tambourine, cowbell and some great backing vocals on the chorus. Just listen to Simon's crunchy guitar breakdown...while he's singing! Of course there's the solo, complete with a flanged outro. Let me tell you, there are Pages of solos here. Look deeper and there's hard drivers like, "Unlimited Baby" and the closer "Test The Fire". The obvious influence shows on "Stone Fox". Come on, this is Humble friggin' Pie meets Foghat, just the way we like it. If Grand Funk Railroad could sell out Shea Stadium back in the seventies, then you should be standing in line right now, to either see this band live or to buy this fantastic CD. The songwriting comes to life and the influences are painted with fine strokes. Check out the bonus track, they give us their cool version of Carole King's classic "I Feel The Earth Move", with taste like that, you know where they get their melodic side from. This, my friends is the total package. These guys have the midas touch and one of the best debuts in any genre. The Golden Gods sweat blood and tears and are deserving to wear The Thorny Crown Of Rock and Roll! www.thegoldengods.com
