By The Atomic Chaser and The Rocker
A few years ago, Disturbed released "The Sickness" (their debut nu-metal masterpiece). The songs were loud, they were fast, and they kicked ass. Then they released "Believe". It was a change from "The Sickness", it was more mellow and not as heavy, but the lyrics greatly improved. They have matured and improved since "The Sickness". With 'Ten Thousand Fists' they have taken a small step away from nu-metal in the direction of a hard rock/metal band. David Draiman has decreased the "monkey screaming" and stopped trying to be a gangsta rocker. Not only has Draiman's vocals improved, but Dan Donegan's guitar playing has also improved. The Disturbed songs now have guitar solos! Yes you heard me! Guitar solos! So, "Ten Thousand Fists" has defied the critics and shown the world that there is indeed life after nu-metal...even for Disturbed! If you like nu-metal or if you enjoy Disturbed's first two releases, 'TEN THOUSAND FISTS' is made for you. The production is excellent and the tunes are good. The Genesis cover is cool and is a nice touch here. If you like nu-metal or if you enjoy Disturbed's first two discs, this album is made for you. If you don't enjoy this genre or this band, however, this album won't change your mind, so you'll want to give it a wide birth. But if you're only so-so on nu-metal, don't immediately dismiss this as "just another nu-metal album." Go ahead, give this disc a whirl, and pump your fists in the air to the songs of "Ten Thousand Fists." By far their best album - probably the best radio-metal band since Black-era Metallica.
